Candy Controls works with other manufacturers to acquire, license, support and continue mechanical product lines, ensuring long-term value for both companies and their customers. All conversations are handled confidentially. We do not engage outside advisors, brokers, or your competitors. The exploratory conversation is between us.
As a second-generation manufacturer, Candy Controls specializes in mechanical power transmission and motion control components and systems. Our products including precision gearboxes, screw jacks and couplings are commonly used by OEMs and end-users in automated assembly, food and beverage processing, packaging, renewable energy and web converting. This focus makes us a natural fit
for product lines with an established installed base, from a single niche product to a small product family.
Helping Manufacturers transition non-core products
When a mechanical product line no longer fits your strategy, we can give it new home. We ensure long-term support for both companies and their customers. Products may no longer fit for a number of reasons, some are picked up in company acquisitions, others are legacy products, or perhaps it’s a family-owned product with no succession plan. Regardless of the situation, Candy Controls may provide value by:
- Acquiring or licensing legacy, unaligned or under supported products
- Generating revenue for both companies
- Unburdening physical and human resources
- Continuing to manufacture and provide aftermarket support
- Honoring customer contracts and warranties
- Providing long-term continuity to existing customers
Proven track record of product transitions
Candy Controls has experience acquiring and licensing product lines. Many years ago, we purchased the Dynamic Differential line from Dynamics Manufacturing, and we continue to support their gearboxes and customers today.
More recently, we acquired the Specon line of variable speed and differential gearboxes from Fairchild Rotork when it no longer fit their strategic direction. Fairchild Rotork recovered value from a product they were walking away from and freed up meaningful facility space. Specon customers — who would otherwise have been left without a supplier — kept access to a product they depended on, and Candy Controls added a complementary line to our catalog. A win for all involved.
Beyond acquisitions, we’ve partnered with OEMs through licensing and private-label agreements that let them retain product ownership while reducing internal resource demands. Candy Controls remains fluid in its approach, and where appropriate, integrates these products into our production facility and headquarters in Niles, Illinois.
How a transition might work
Every transistion is different; here’s how one might unfold:
Step 1 — Confidential conversation: A 30-minute call to understand the product line, customers, and what ‘good’ looks like for you. All conversations at this point are confidential, and we don’t share information with anyone.
Step 2 — Mutual evaluation: The evaluation stays within our team, questions and answers flow between us, never through intermedieries. If both sides see fit, we exchange technical and commercial information under NDA.Typically 4-6 weeks.
Step 3 — Transition plan: We agree on commercial terms, a customer communication plan, manufacturing transition, and inventory handling. You stay involved as long as you would like. It’s your decision. Typically 4-8 weeks.
Step 4 — Ongoing support: We continue to manufacture, support, and supply the product line. Your former customers stay in service. Your future involvement is up to your discretion. Typically 1-2 years or longer depending on buyout period.
